Jackie & Kess

April 19, 2025

We’re so excited to welcome you to Kess’s childhood home, the beautiful island of Saint Lucia, for our wedding.

Before colonization, Saint Lucia was originally called “Louanalao” by the Arawak people in 200 AD and then “Hewanorra" by the Carib people in 800 AD, both names meaning “Island of the Iguanas."

Known as the “Helen of the West Indies” (a nod to Helen of Troy), the island was fought over so frequently between England and France that each country ruled it seven different times.

Lucians are a proud and diverse people that have been shaped by indigenous and colonial influences throughout the years. You can see Carib, West African, Indian, French, and English influences reflected in the language, culture, and food.

We’re so excited that we get to share the culture with you while you’re with us on the island!

Love, Jackie & Kess

The Couple

Jackie & Kess

We both met as summer lifeguards almost 20 years ago. Life reconnected us five years back, and we’ve been inseparable ever since. We enjoy each other’s silliness and fun, and we want you to share in our love. We both love to travel, we love to meet people, we love adventure in food, drink, and culture, and we want to share that with you.

Schedule

  • Welcome Drinks and Sunset Cruise

We’d like to welcome everyone coming in from out of the country to a private sunset cruise around Soufriere Bay. Get ready to take some beautiful photos of the Pitons! Drinks and light appetizers will be provided. Note that if you’re flying into UVF on Thursday, you will likely have too tight of a time window to make it to Soufriere for the boat ride.

Beach / boat casual, heels not recommended. By popular request, lookbooks are here, but we just want you to have fun and be comfortable no matter what you're wearing! https://pin.it/hfuCN08cw and https://pin.it/6IEc5yjqN

  • Daytime Beach Party

Good Friday is a holiday in Saint Lucia, and all restaurants and bars outside of the resorts will be closed. If you’re staying at an Airbnb instead of a traditional hotel, please plan ahead for your food and alcohol that day (note that alcohol cannot legally be sold anywhere on Good Friday outside of the resorts, which are exempt).

This would be a great day to relax at your resort or even try summiting Gros Piton, but if you’re looking to socialize, feel free to join us for an optional daytime beach party and BBQ, location at a beach near Laborie (see the Google Maps pin). Don’t forget your sunscreen, some food and water, and note that there are no restrooms at the beach (that’s what the ocean is for). We’ll wrap up before sunset so that everyone can relax and rest up before Saturday.

  • Vow Exchange and Reception

We want to ensure that our out-of-country guests enjoy a safe ride to and from the wedding venue, so we have arranged for two shuttles (the “yellow shuttle” and the “blue shuttle”) to pick up guests at various, centralized locations between Laborie and the Seashell Beach Restaurant in Soufriere. Please see the tab “Misc.” for more detail.

We’ll exchange our vows at 4:59pm (according to Kess), so if you’re not arriving on a shuttle, please try to arrive no later than 4:30pm to settle in and crack open a cold Piton beer. After the deal is sealed, everyone will enjoy a cocktail hour on the beach, followed by a traditional Saint Lucian dinner, buffet-style, and then dancing. Times for the reception and dancing aren’t precise….you’re on island time now. Come ready to wine your waist!

There should be something for everyone on the dance floor, but here’s our Spotify playlist to get you ready to dance to some Soca and Dancehall music: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1mi3DfxiTzzZWNJPfVTVNA?si=VRwDi11rRhaRJLKYFMZV_A&pi=kMilImIkTZCDQ

Beach casual to beach formal - choose your own adventure. Remember that you'll be on sand for the ceremony, so we don't recommend heels.

  • Easter Sunday Brunch

Easter Sunday is a festive day in Saint Lucia. For those that may want to attend Easter services, there are many different churches to choose from, including Church of the Assumption in Soufriere (Mass is at 8:30am) or the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Laborie (Mass is at 9:00am).

We hope everyone enjoyed their night! For anyone who wants a little more beach time and socialization, we will be parked at Island Soul restaurant from noon onwards. This is an actual restaurant (which we are 95% confident is open today), and we’ll also have a grill on the beach for anyone that wants to bring grillables (and wedding cake)!

We recommend bringing water, sunscreen, towels, etc. For those heading to the airport today, note that it is very close (about 5 minutes away) from the airport.

Great traditional food cooked by one of Kess’s aunties in the town that Kess grew up in.

EAT

Zoey's Restaurant [Laborie]

Londonderry, St. Lucia

Amazing “chicken and bake” (fried chicken in fry bread) in Laborie, the village where Kess grew up. Grab a bake and watch the locals playing soccer on the field below the restaurant. Disclaimer that they’re not open all the time, so it’s best to have a back up plan.

EAT

Island Breeze [Near Airport]

Anse Des Sables
Vieux Fort, St. Lucia

Our favorite beach restaurant for afternoon hanging out in Saint Lucia. The view is incredible, they make a mean rum punch, and all of their food is good.

Travel

Other Info

While we wish we could teleport you to the beach, getting to Soufriere is a bit more involved.

There are two airports in Saint Lucia, one on either end of the island; make sure you book your flight to Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), which is towards the South side.

You will likely want to reserve a rental car to get from place to place, especially if you want to explore the different towns and sights. Alternatively, you can order taxis, or if you’re feeling even more adventurous, you can take the public mini-buses that run regularly throughout the island.

Group transportation will be provided on the day of the wedding to shuttle guests to and from common meet-up points close to lodging. More details will be coming soon.

Accommodations

We do not have rooms blocked for out of town guests, but there are a variety of beautiful villas, Airbnbs, and boutique hotels in and around Soufriere available at varying price points. If booking an Airbnb with other guests, we recommend staying anywhere between Soufriere and Laborie for easier access to wedding events. We are so grateful to be celebrating our wedding with you. We also appreciate the time and distance it takes to get to Saint Lucia, and that is the best gift we could get, but for those who would like, we have a link below to fund our future home improvement adventures. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
